Grade 5 expands on the concepts form earlier levels and presents new ones: sixteenth-note patterns, seventh chords, finger independence, voicing, augmented triads, rubato, and asymetrical rhythms. Students continue to learn about the different eras of music, and refine their skills of pedaling, finger substitution, and musical terminology so they can play beautifully and intelligently. New keys are E-flat major and C minor. Seven touch releases are presented through various technical exercises and pieces, and correct technique is reinforced.
