Over the Sparkling Sea is a jaunty 6/8 march (with a brief stint in 2/4) with a melody that is derived from an original song by Reber Clark.

Program Notes

When Scott Gumina, Director of Bands at Lisle High School of Lisle, Illinois, asked me to create a work honoring the retirement of Ms. Lisa Kiener-Barnett I immediately flashed back to when my two girls, now fully grown and out on their own, went through her junior high band program. We really liked Ms. Kiener and she really, truly, is a very fine band director. Being in her bands was an excellent musical and personal experience for both of our girls and for our family. I am honored to have been asked to created this work dedicated to such a wonderful and fantastic teacher.
