J. Scott McKenzie combines elements of bluegrass, jazz, funk, and blues into a classical sonata (“black tie” formal) for symphonic band. Black Tie Blu-Bop is tightly constructed, “grooves” despite tricky asymmetrical meters, and most of all gets audiences and players excited!
