As the title of suggests, The Quintessential Count is a homage to the famous collaborations between Count Basie, Quincy Jones … and Sammy Nestico - the reference to whose name is omitted in the title to facilitate brevity. However, those familiar with the relevant history know the significance of Nestico when discussing Basie and Jones and will understand that his presence here is indeed implied. This is a slower tempo composition, paying tribute to the similar classic Basie/Jones/Nestico works of this era, for example, “Lil’ Darlin’”, “Second Time Around”, “For Lena and Lenny” and “Quintessence” (to name few).
