Henri Bertini (1798-1876) wrote his Etudes opus 100 for children with small hands. The preface of the book reads "25 Etudes faciles, principalement pour les jeunes Elèves, dont les mains de peuvent encore embrasser l'étendue de l'Octave" (25 studies especially composed for children who cannot embrace the compass of an octave).
