This 64-page book contains specimen tests for the Improvisation section of the Modern Pianoforte syllabus, presented in the format used in ANZCA examinations. Up to 12 examples per level are included, from Grade Two to Associate Performer Diploma.

Also included are a full overview of test requirements, general tips, and strategies for approaching this section of the exam. Accompaniment patterns, melodic embellishment, introductions and codas are explained using notated examples from the exercises in the book, and performed on the accompanying CD. Reference chord charts with suggested inversions and fingering are given for all keys required by the syllabus.
