"Ascent to Quandary Peak" depicts the composer and his wife's journey as they ascend Quandary Peak, one of the Colorado mountains with a summit over 14,000 feet. Although the trail is considered one of the less challenging 14ers to hike in Colorado, it can still be difficult for someone (such as the composer) who is not used to hiking long distances and higher altitude. "Ascent to Quandary Peak," with its majestic opening, uplifting melodies and excited sense of awe as you reach the summit, will rouse both students and audience for any concert program.
