Vieille Prière Bouddhique [Old Buddhist Prayer] was one of the last pieces Lili Boulanger composed before her untimely death at the age of 24 in 1918. Originally for chorus and orchestra, this work beautifully encapsulates themes of spirituality and reflection and is notable for its serene and meditative quality, which mirrors the contemplative nature of Buddhist prayers. Arranger Travis Freshner expertly transforms this piece for the modern concert band (without chorus) while staying true to the composer's original intent. A glossary of French terms is included as are the original French lyrics and English translation. (7:10)
